Author Wendy Sondov

  • 1 16.5 ounce roll refrigerated sugar cookie dough, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest packed
  • ½ cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips I use Whole Foods 365 brand fair trade chocolate chips
  • ¾ cup melting chocolate I use Bada Bing Bada Boom dark dipping and coating
  • Orange sparkle sugar
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips

  1. Preheat the oven to 350° F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, using a spoon or rubber spatula, combine the cookie dough and orange zest. If not dipping the cookies in melted chocolate, ½ cup of mini chocolate chips can be mixed into the dough now.
  3. Use a small scoop (1 tablespoon) to portion the dough onto the prepared baking sheet about 2” apart. If using sparkle sugar, dip the top of the dough balls into orange sugar before baking. If using chocolate chips, a few chips can be added to the top of the dough balls before baking.
  4. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until edges begin to turn golden.
  5. Cool on the baking pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer onto wire racks to cool completely.
  6. To chocolate dip the plain or orange sugared cookies: Line a baking sheet with wax paper. Melt the dark chocolate. Dip the edge of ½ of each cookie in the melted chocolate. Place the dipped cookie on the prepared baking sheet. Refrigerate for 5 minutes, or until the chocolate is set.
  7. Store Chocolate Orange Cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 7 days. These cookies get crunchier over time.
