Gather some fun and easy Easter Care Package ideas to share love and celebration with someone away from home. Military members and college students will love this box filled with Easter treats.

Why you'll love this care package theme
- Using a plastic table cloth to decorate the care package is colorful, easy, and inexpensive.
- Even if your care package is going to a hot weather location, there are lots of heat resistant treats that can used.
- Care packages are a meaningful way to bring a piece of home to those far away.
An Easter Care Package is like an Easter basket in a box. Almost anything you would put in an Easter basket delivered in person can packed up and mailed.
The one major exception to keep in mind is the weather where you live and where the care package is going. It may feel "unnatural" to create an Easter basket without chocolate, but warm weather and chocolate don’t go well together in a care package.
There are many places (especially deployed military locations) where, as early as April, it's already hot enough to melt any shipped chocolate.
There's still plenty of candy and smiles included in this holiday parcel (including a rabbit), just no chocolate rabbit. Later in the sprng and summer when the temperatures get really hot, even these non-chocolate candies can melt.

Decorating supplies
- Plastic table cloth: Thin disposable table cloths with seasonal or holiday prints are available at dollar stores throughout the year. These table cloths often have prints just along the outer edge which works fine for decorating care packages. One table cloth border is enough to cover the flaps of at least two large USPS Flat Rate boxes.
- Extra strength glue stick: The extra strength is essential if you choose to not cover the decorated box flaps with packing tape. Regular strength glue sticks will not keep the decorations in place while shipping, especially in hot weather.
- USPS large Flat Rate box: Free flat rate boxes are available in large, medium, or small at the post office.
Instructions
- Cut the table cloth or table cloth border to the size of the box flaps.
- Use the glue stick to attach the table cloth strips onto the box flaps.
- Cover the decorated flaps with clear tape to secure and weatherproof.
- Fill the box.

- Toys/Games: Even adults enjoy games and game books for relaxation and distraction during down time. A small stuffed toy is a fuzzy mascot that is a loving reminder of home.
- Drinks/ Paper Goods: Water flavoring is especially appreciated by deployed military for variety and to mask unwanted flavor in the water. Drink powders with electrolytes are great for hot weather hydration.
- Snacks: The box is filled with Easter cheer in the form of non-chocolate candy such as Skittles, Jolly Ranchers, bubble gum, and jelly beans.
- Decorations: Banners, garland, and other holiday decor help make a home away from home more festive.
Tips and variations
- Covering the inside flaps is like wrapping a gift inside-out. The purpose is to make the box bright and cheerful. Other options include, scrap book paper, construction paper, contact paper, or wrapping paper (used on the care package in the above photo).
- Before sealing the box, close the flaps and shake the package. If there is any movement inside, use tissue paper or other packing material to fill any unused space.
- Use more packing tape than you think is necessary! Packing tape helps the box hold together despite rough handling. It also keeps sand out in desert locations and helps repel water in wet locations.

Notes
- Large flat rate boxes from the US Postal Service are expensive to mail (about $25), however you can fit quite a bit inside and don’t have to worry about weight (up to 50 pounds). Not only are the cartons themselves free, but you can order them online and the postal service will deliver them to your door.
- Covering the inside flaps is like wrapping a gift inside-out. The purpose is to make the box bright and cheerful. Other options to the cut table cloth used on this box include, scrap book paper, construction paper, contact paper, or wrapping paper.
- When mailing short distances, taping over the flap decorations probably isn’t necessary. However, military care packages have to withstand rough treatment and temperature extremes. Taping thoroughly inside and out, helps keep the care package intact, and keeps out sand and water.
