Create a Harry Potter Care Package with a Honeydukes theme using decorations and recipes from the wizarding world. Themed packages are fun to make and even more fun to receive. Filled with store bought and homemade treats, like Anti Dementor Cookies and English Toffee, this is a gift box straight from High Street in Hogsmeade.

    About this care package

Harry Potter and his wizarding world capture the imagination of kids and adults beyond the books and movies. Hogswarts themed parties and clubs are popular with all ages. Colleges have Quidich teams. Not to mention, the magical facsimile created by Universal Studios in Florida.

When I discovered that my “adopted” service member is a Harry Potter fan, I knew that a themed package would be a special surprise. My only problem was narrowing down the possibilities. There are so many resources available!

An overabundance of choices and enthusiasm, led to sending two care packages, one with a very simple Hogswarts theme to transport some wizard gifts and the other is a special order from Honeydukes.

Just like customers can place orders from cookie and popcorn companies, I placed an “order” treats from the magical sweets shop, Honeydukes. This package includes candy and cookies based on the books.

Making a wizard sweets package is almost as easy as waving a wand. Everything you need to create magic is right here.

For military care packages, I always use the large flat rate boxes that are free from the post office. It ships for just under $20 for weights up to 50 pounds. However, any carton can be used.

Print out the pdf's. The logo decorations are sized for a large flat rate box and can be printed on regular printer paper. The bag labels are blank so that you can fill in the candy names. After filling in the names, print them out on card stock.

Pink paper treat bags are available at Party City, Target, and online.

    Directions

    1. Print and cutout pdf’s for the Honeydukes logo decorations and candy bag labels.
    2. Cover the flaps with pink contact paper.
    3. Use the glue stick to attach the decorations to the flaps. Cover the flaps with clear packing tape to hold the decorations in place
    4. Place the candy and cookies into the party bags. Fold down the tops of the bags and staple on the candy bag labels.
    5. Fill the box!

    • Downloadable Harry Potter fonts are so much fun! The fonts are available on many sites, but this is the site that worked for me. Once downloaded, the font becomes a permanent option on your computer fonts menu. I used the Lumos font on Word to make the labels on the candy packages and the Parry Hotter font to label the contents graphic above.
    • All of the Honeydukes logos come from Wanda at Entertaining Diva. I sized one of her graphics for the box flaps and for the logo on the candy labels. She has created a bunch of great free printables for this theme and lots of others.
    • Chocolate Frogs and Peppermint Toads are quick and easy to make with melting chocolate and a frog mold. Make the Frogs with milk or dark chocolate. Make the Toads with white chocolate plus a bit of peppermint candy flavoring or some crushed candy canes mixed in.

    Hogwarts

    Hogwarts Care Package

This simple package includes some Harry Potter themed gifts; advent calendar, Pez, puzzle book, and card deck. Each gift is wrapped in brown paper and tied with twine. A personalized Hogwarts acceptance letter (delivered by owl) is included.

    • Print out the parchment scroll-like stationary for the acceptance letter and use the Lumos font to print the letter.
    • Of course, the acceptance letter has to be delivered by owl. Cut out Hedwig from this printable coloring page.
    • For easy decorating, each of the flaps on the Hogwarts Care Package have printout of a house flag or Hogwarts logo.
    • Add encouraging quotes from the Harry Potter series to printable gift tags.

    Tips

    • Large flat rate boxes from the US Postal Service are expensive to mail (about $20), however you can fit quite a bit inside and don’t have to worry about weight (up to 50 pounds). Not only are the cartons themselves free, but you can order them online and the postal service will deliver them to your door!
    • Covering the inside flaps is like wrapping a gift inside-out. The purpose is to make the box bright and cheerful. In addition to contact paper, flaps can be covered with construction paper, wrapping paper, scrap book paper, patterned duct tape, or plastic table cloths.
    • When mailing short distances, taping over the flap decorations probably isn’t necessary. However, military care packages have to withstand rough treatment and temperature extremes. Taping thoroughly inside and out, helps keep the box intact.

Hopefully, the sailor who received these care packages was happily surprised! Most of the time, I don't hear anything from the service members that I adopt through Soldiers Angels. There are many reasons for that; lack of time, lack of internet, the nature of the jobs they are doing. I know that all of the service members appreciate having their names called at mail call and the letters and packages provide some uplifting moments in their difficult days. I want them to know they aren't forgotten and that their sacrifices are appreciated. 🙂
