Tips
- Be sure to use only candy coloring with chocolate. Regular food coloring will cause chocolate to seize, turning it thick and cement-like.
- Several of these designs require chilling the dipped grahams before adding final chocolate details. Be sure to bring the grahams back to room temperature before adding additional chocolate. If the cookie surface is cold, the melted chocolate details will firm immediately on contact and won't be workable.
- This can be an easy gluten free treat! Be sure to check all ingredients for gluten free certification.
- If you prefer to use less chocolate coating, the chocolate can be spread on top of the crackers instead of dipping them.

My experience with this recipe
I am not a fan of the gory, bloody, scary stuff for Halloween. My adult kids, especially my son, will tell you that when they were growing up, my ban on costumes that involved weapons or gore was non-negotiable.
My daughter wasn’t interested in costumes that were against my guidelines, so I don’t think she felt limited in her Halloween costume choices. My son, though not generally into scary things, was sometimes frustrated by my decisions.
He ended up wearing costumes we created representing characters from movies or literature for Halloween: Gondolf from The Hobbit, Obi Wan Kenobi from Star Wars, and Neo from The Matrix.
Somewhere in middle school, he asked for a squirrel costume, representing a creature from a video game. A cute squirrel from a video game sounded reasonable to me.
It turned out that video game squirrel was an evil rodent with numerous behaviors that were not up to the standards of Obi Wan or Gondolf! That may have been that last year we did Halloween costumes, but I still apply those same Halloween guidelines to my cookies!

These are cute as can be and they look like fun to make too, even for those of us that are artistically challenged.

I really dislike Halloween. I hate being scared and the pumpkin guts kind of freak me out. However, I can appreciate the adorable creatures you have created. Love the step by step photos, which make this so approachable.I'm a big fan of the ribbon and packaging!
Wendy Sondov
I am totally with you, Cindy, on dislike of the scary, gory stuff! I just don't understand what makes blood and terror appealing. However, if (and "if" is the operative word here) the gross stuff is eliminated, I am all for dress up and pretend play. So, I will continue "Campaign Cute", in the hopes that I can flood the internet with adorableness 😉 As for the pumpkin guts.....I have a harder time relating to that. Animal guts...omg no. Vegetable guts....a bunch of slimy seeds. However, I'm delighted that your aversion to pumpkin guts has in no way limited the culinary creativity you share! 🙂 Happy Avoidance of All Things Halloween!

Wonderful collection it will surely make some happy faces during halloween
Wendy Sondov
Thank you, Amit! I certainly hope so!
Reeni
I'm not into any of the gory scary stuff either Wendy! I can't watch horror movies not even the lamest ones. These are adorable! I love that you can make so many different ones with just a few ingredients. I'm especially partial to the cats. 🙂
Wendy Sondov
Thanks, Reeni! If you make the cats with white chocolate, they could be Moon cats! My son has one black cat and one calico. I considered making some calico cat grahams, but ran out of time! This may still happen at some point! 🙂
