This Seas the Day (Beach Theme) Care Package is fun gift that shares motivation and smiles. The box is easy to decorate and to fill with delicious themed treats.
Why you'll love this care package theme
- Seas the Day is a fun play on words and is a great motivational theme for a care package.
- The ocean or beach theme will delight deployed sailors and beach lovers of all ages.
- The printable pdf's provided save you time and make decorating the care package box fun and easy.
There are lots of packaged candy and cookies that fit this beach theme with fish shapes and tropical flavors. The shelf stable treats are the perfect gift for a service member far from home or college students in their dorm room.
You can also send homemade baked goods that have a summertime beach vibe. Try Almond Sand Dollar Cookies that look just like they were found on the beach or Watermelon Cookies that are colorful and delicious.
Decorating supplies
- I used beige printer paper and light blue wrapping paper to create a tropical beach scene on each box flap. Construction paper or scrap book paper could also be used.
- Print and cut out the palm tree clip art.
- “Seas the Day” is a popular play on words quote. Print and cut out these graphics with the quote.
Instructions
- Decorate the box flap paper with blue waves and clip art palm trees and quotes.
- Glue the decorated papers onto the box flaps.
- Cover the flaps with clear tape to secure and weatherproof.
- Fill the box.
Care package contents
- Candy is always popular. For this care package choose summer flavors and candy in sea animal shapes.
- Beach themed snacks (tuna, fish crackers, cookies) and drink mix.
- Activity books (puzzles, coloring) and light reading.
- Beach gear (flip flops, cooling towel, sunscreen, razor, wipes)
Tips
- Personal storage space on a ship is extremely limited. When sending a care package to someone deployed on a ship, try to keep nicknacks to a minimum and focus on snacks and consumable supplies.
- One recommended nicknack exception is a small stuffed toy. (To read about the many uses service members have for stuffed toys, read this post from Operation Gratitude. )
- Before sealing the box, close the flaps and shake the package. If there is any movement inside, use tissue paper or other packing material to fill any unused space.
- Use more packing tape than you think is necessary! Packing tape helps the box hold together despite rough handling. It also keeps sand out in desert locations and helps repel water in wet locations.

Notes
- Large flat rate boxes from the US Postal Service are expensive to mail (about $25), however you can fit quite a bit inside and don’t have to worry about weight (up to 50 pounds). Not only are the cartons themselves free, but you can order them online and the postal service will deliver them to your door.
- Covering the inside flaps is like wrapping a gift inside-out. The purpose is to make the box bright and cheerful. In addition to the computer paper and wrapping paper used on this box, flaps can be covered with scrap book paper, construction paper, contact paper, or plastic table cloths.
- When mailing short distances, taping over the flap decorations probably isn’t necessary. However, military care packages have to withstand rough treatment and temperature extremes. Taping thoroughly inside and out, helps keep the care package intact, and keeps out sand and water.
